Financial Hardship & Other Funds

At some point during your studies, you may find yourself
feeling the pinch! If you begin to have difficulties paying
the rent, bills, or having enough money to fund your next meal,
please do not hesitate to contact the Student Funding Advice Team
for advice on budgeting, managing debts or for information about
financial help from University funds.
Please Note that the following information is based on
the financial help available in 2012/13 and could be subject to
change in 2013/14.
Access to Learning Fund (ALF)
The Government provides Higher Education
institutions with ALF to provide discretionary financial help for
both full and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate UK
students.
The Fund can help alleviate unexpected financial
hardship and students who may be considering leaving higher
education because of financial problems are particularly encouraged
to apply. Students should be aware that ALF is intended to act as a
safety net for those in financial difficulty rather than their main
source of income.
Regrettably we cannot meet every application
we receive and we cannot always meet all of the costs that you
might apply for. Any awards made are non repayable.
Information on eligibility (2012/13)
Please note that we have not yet
received our government allocation of ALF for 2013-14. This
will be confirmed during the summer of 2013. Students Must be
fully enrolled and have taken out al funding available to them
before applying.
YSJ Hardship Fund
This is a YSJ Fund designed to support
international and EU students who are not eligible to apply for the
Access to Learning Fund. Any awards made are based on the
student finding themselves in extreme unforseen financial
circumstances.
Information on eligibility (2012/13)
