First year student to address fellow entrepreneurs at Venturefest

Entrepreneurs will learn from a bright young spark at this year’s Venturefest Yorkshire, when first year York St John student Ed Taylor addresses fellow entrepreneurs and regional business leaders in a pre-dinner speech on 16 February.

The eighteen year old student from Osmotherley in North Yorkshire has a passion for guitars and design. During his time in the sixth form at Northallerton College, he combined his talent in both of these areas to design and build a guitar. NYBEP (North Yorkshire Business and Education Partnership) presented him with an Engineering Inspiration award in 2010 for his first guitar design and this accolade gave Ed the confidence to continue with his dream. He is now a first year BA Product Design student at York St John and hopes to have a further five guitars designed and built by September.

Ed is exhibiting the first guitar he designed, made of zebrawood, mahogany and ebony, at the NYBEP stand at Venturefest. In addition to showcasing his design talent, he has been chosen to deliver the pre-dinner speech to delegates at Venturefest. In this, he will highlight his inspiration behind his love for design and his aspirations for his up-and-coming business Ed Taylor Design Limited.

Speaking in advance of Venturefest, Ed said:

"I am really excited to have the chance to show my guitar designs to a captive audience and also to be able to share the impact of winning a NYBEP award and the knock-on effect it has had on my confidence. I am looking forward to developing my guitar range further."

Venturefest Yorkshire brings together the region's finest science, technology and knowledge entrepreneurs, the professional services who support them and world-class business speakers. The day gives young entrepreneurs the opportunity to showcase their enterprising potential and also includes an Innovation Showcase where the best young companies in the region are invited to exhibit and promote their new ideas.
