MA in Practitioner Research: Improving Professional Practice A Masters for the Education and the Children’s Workforce

Study on this course allows you the opportunity to research aspects of your professional practice and to gain accreditation at Masters Level. Through close scrutiny of your work, practitioner research is a powerful form of continuing professional development which develops knowledge about and insights into practice.

What qualifications will I need?

Applicants for entry to the programme must demonstrate that they have the qualifications, and/or experience which will allow them to succeed on this programme of study. Applicants must have access to a workplace or voluntary setting (in which practitioner enquiry can take place) and possess at least one of the following:

  • An honours degree in an appropriate discipline or its equivalent from York St John University or any other approved university or institution of higher education

or

  • An equivalent qualification acceptable to York St John University

or

  • Appropriate Accreditation of Prior (Experiential) Learning (APL/APEL) qualifications/experience.

As the MA is for practitioners from different professional fields, an honours degree from across a range of disciplines will be considered appropriate in terms of suitability for entry to the programme. This will be particularly so where the applicant has engaged in qualitative research as part of their first degree studies. A first degree in Education or the Social Sciences provides a good foundation but degrees in other disciplines will also be considered.
