Senior Lecturer

I started lecturing at York St John in September 2005 and currently teach across the statistics and developmental psychology modules on the BSc Psychology degree and on the new proposed MSc Psychology of Child and Adolescent Development.  I am director of the Unit for Child and Youth Studies here at York St John University and my research interests span a range of topics, exploring peer relationships in childhood and adolescence, in particular the nature and prevalence of bullying in schools and cyberbullying. 

 

Dr Anna MacklinDr Anna Macklin

Senior Lecturer

After completing my doctoral research at The University of York I worked as a teaching fellow on the MSc in Applied Forensic Psychology before moving to York St John University in September 2006 to take up a post as a Psychology Lecturer. I am currently Pathway Leader for the Graduate Diploma in Psychology and I teach Child Development and Forensic Psychology across York St John’s undergraduate degree programmes.

 

Lorna HamiltonDr Lorna Hamilton

Lecturer in Psychology

My interests lie within cognitive and developmental psychology, with a particular focus on language and reading acquisition and neurodevelopmental disorders.  Before joining the academic staff at York St John, I worked for four years as part of the research team on the Wellcome Language and Reading project at the University of York.  This large-scale longitudinal study aims to identify predictors of reading difficulties in young children and to test a number of models of the relationship between disorders of oral and written language.  My doctoral research formed part of this project and focused on the Home Literacy Environment of children at family risk of dyslexia. 

 

Stephen GibsonDr Stephen Gibson

Course Leader

I have been at York St John since September 2005, before which I undertook my doctoral research in the Department of Psychology, Lancaster University. In my research I use discursive and rhetorical approaches to explore a range of social psychological topics, including citizenship, national identity, dis/obedience and representations of peace and conflict. I currently teach Social Psychology and Qualitative Research Methods.

 

Dr Beth BellDr Beth Bell

Lecturer in Psychology

My primary area of research expertise is developmental psychology. I am especially interested in understanding the problems faced by children and adolescents in contemporary society (especially with relation to media and technology), and utilising this knowledge to develop interventions that create positive attitude and behaviour change within these domains. My research to date has centred on key contemporary issues including: body image and eating behaviour, materialism, energy consumption and cyber-security. I also have interest in the development of research methodologies for working with teenage populations.
