Sophia Marshall
Head of Programme
I am a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy and
joined York St John University in 2010. I began to specialise in
musculoskeletal physiotherapy at an early stage in my career and
held senior combined clinical and managerial outpatient posts in
Greater Manchester, Hampshire, London and Cambridgeshire before
moving into teaching in 2003.
Whilst working as a clinician I held posts
principally in the NHS but also spent 2 years working in the
private sector. In 2009 I took a one year break from teaching by
taking up a post back in the NHS as a Principal Physiotherapist to
update my practice.
My University teaching experience includes posts
at Hertfordshire, Sheffield, and Aberdeen with a wide range of
teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Throughout my academic career I have maintained my clinical skills
by working in private practice on a part time basis.
My main clinical interests include manual therapy
and psychosocial factors in the management of chronic pain. My main
educational interests relate to the acquisition of manual therapy
skills and the development of clinical reasoning skills.
