Plot

Based on events in the life of Lewis Carroll, the play explores the relationship between the real-life Revd. Charles Dodgson and the Liddell family, in particular, Alice Liddell the eponymous heroine of Alice in Wonderland (and Alice Through the Looking Glass). The plot is delivered mainly through the technique of flashback. Its transmission co-incided with the hundredth anniversary of the publication of Alice in Wonderland in 1865.

Comment

Potter re-worked the material of the 1965 play into a movie script which was distributed as "Dreamchild" in 1986. A viewing copy of the 1965 play exists at the British Film Institute.
