RCOMH Steering Group Member - Dr Hazel Mackey
After qualifying as an Occupational
Therapist in 1985, I worked in the profession as a clinician,
academic, and manager. I have many years of experience working in
rehabilitation settings within elderly and primary care and have
been involved in the education and training of therapy support
workers and skill mix initiatives throughout my various
roles.
I have been actively involved in research
since 2001 when I started investigating the role of support workers
in occupational therapy. Later, my interest in health services
research developed through my PhD studies into NHS modernisation
and the effects on professional identities.
I am actively involved in building research
capacity within the health and social care professions . In
my current role, I am the Research Lead for Staffordshire and Stoke
on Trent Partnership Trust for 4 days per week and for one day a
week , I am the Occupational Therapy Research Facilitator, for the
West Midlands Primary Care Research Network. In these roles I am
involved with the development, piloting, delivery and evaluation of
research studies, and I engage with care partners to support
the operationalisation of research into practice. I am passionate
about research that is practice driven and applicable to the
development and modernization of services.
I am a Member of the Research and Development
Board, College of Occupational Therapists; the Occupational Therapy
representative on the West Midlands North Hub of the Allied Health
Professions Research Network; and a Honorary Lecturer, at the
School of Health and Rehabilitation, Keele University.
