RCOMH Steering Group Member - Mark McFetridge
Mark qualified as a clinical psychologist in 1987 and has been
trying to remember what he learnt ever since. He had NHS posts in
Dewsbury and Scarborough before going to work at the Retreat York
in 1996. Mark helped his colleagues create the Acorn programme, a
Therapeutic Community using Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and
establish routine outcome measurement from the start. Four years
ago he and colleagues wondered whether functional brain changes
following the Acorn TC could be identified, and set about to have a
look. This research continues.
Mark has presented at numerous national and international
conferences on topics including psychological therapies for PTSD,
dissociative disorders and personality disorders. He is currently
exploring long term changes following psychological therapies. Mark
is a consultant clinical psychologist at the Retreat York. head of
the outpatient psychological trauma team, and chair of the
Retreats research group.
