David Megginson, PhD, MSc, BSc, Chartered FCIPD will be delivering the Keynote speech.

David Megginson

David co-founded (with David Clutterbuck) the European  Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC), and is currently an Ambassador for EMCC in Europe and Honorary Vice-President of EMCC UK. David is also Emeritus Professor of HRD at Sheffield Hallam University and founder of the Coaching & Mentoring Research Unit in the University. David has engaged in research over many years on coaching, mentoring, CPD and self-development. He has written five books with David Clutterbuck, Techniques for coaching and mentoring, Mentoring in action, Mentoring executives and directors, Making coaching work:creating a coaching culture and Further techniques for coaching and mentoring.

Lis Merrick will be delivering the interactive workshop.

Lis is managing director of Coach Mentoring, a company she launched in 2004, specialising in coaching and mentoring programme design and deliverLis Merricky. Lis holds a Masters in Coaching and Mentoring from Sheffield Business School and now teaches on the Masters programme. She is a consultant within the Coaching and Mentoring Research Unit at the School.

Lis’s expertise is in the design and running of coaching and mentoring programmes and she specialises in the development of global talent management mentoring programmes and mentoring programmes to support women through the glass ceiling. So far in her career she been involved in more than 40 mentoring programmes and in 2010 was amongst those nominated for the Coaching at Work Mentoring Person of the Year:  “because she is a passionate advocate, enthusiastic and has impacted on many organisations with mentoring initiatives – not least in the North West and across Europe”. Lis also works internationally as an executive coach. She is a regular contributor to Coaching at Work.

David will address the challenges and benefits of adopting a coaching style of managing. He will explore what kind of culture facilitates coaching and whether coaching can begin to develop or change organisation culture. He will present his own and others' findings on the experience of change, and ask how coaching and change might be integrated.

Sometimes people get stuck! Brief coaching offers an approach to unsticking. This practical session explores an approach to helping people think new thoughts!

"Man's" inability to communicate is as a result of his failure to listen effectively" (Carl Rogers) This interactive session will explore barriers to effective listening and consider ways in which you can become an active listener.

"Unblocking" techniques - how to help people move forward - David Megginson

We will identify experiences of being blocked as a coach/mentor or as a client, and experiment with methods of helping people to unblock. There will be opportunities to share experiences and to practice some ways of moving forward.

Organisational change invokes powerful emotions in us all. What are the feelings that are invoked and what is to be done with them to avoid toxic frustration? How does ACT (Acceptance Commitment Training) based coaching keep the person and the organisation on track? What is the most powerful question to ask the frustrated employee?
