from the Vice Chancellor
YSJ Induction for all staff
All new members of staff will be invited to attend a half day
YSJ Induction. This morning programme gives new staff
the opportunity to meet other new staff, learn about the
University and find out about some of the key Human Resources Policies, Health and Safety
responsibilities and Staff Development
Opportunities. At the end of the YSJ Induction new staff will
be invited to attend a 'Networking Lunch and Information Market
Place' where they will meet other colleagues from selected support
areas.
Visit the Induction Workshop page
for workshop details, upcoming dates and information on
booking.
Additional YSJ Induction for academic staff
York St John University is committed to supporting new
academic staff so they feel they are prepared for teaching and
facilitating student learning. We also feel it is important that
you are aware of the local content and how the University is moving
forward with a variety of quality enhancement initiatives what will
promote the development of exceptional learning and teaching. To
this end we run a New Academic staff induction "Survival Guide to
Higher Education". This consists of 2.5 days of activities and
opportunities to meet teaching staff from across YSJ. The first
half day sets the scene in relation to quality assurance and
enhancement and is relevant to all new academics staff, the second
day is for those staff who are new to teaching and covers
managing in the classroom and the nuts and bolts of assessment. The
third day is an opportunity for all new staff to participate
in two hands on workshops about information literacy at YSJ
and using Moodle (our VLE) and Mahara (our e-portfolio). Day three
also provides you with an opportunity to network and have lunch
with a number of YSJ University Teaching Fellows.
