Making Small-Group Teaching Work
Delivered by Professor Phil Race
This workshop is about getting students working together and
learning from each other. Small group learning can be a really
valuable learning experience for students when it works well but is
often marred by students adopting ‘passenger’ behaviours, or not
even turning up for tutorials and seminars. The workshop will
explore what students actually do during in our small-group
teaching, and find ways to get all members of small groups to
contribute actively. It will explore options regarding group size
and composition and analyse some of the most prevalent problems
when working with small groups, and seek creative solutions to the
most common of these problems.
