Appointment Information
Booking an appointment
You can book an appointment with a
specialist adviser by speaking to one of the Student Advice
Team in Holgate. Alternatively you can contact the specialist
adviser directly. If you are an applicant hoping to start a
degree at York St John and you have a query then you can make
an appointment using this same system.
It is not always necessary for a face-to-face
appointment with an adviser, and advice and information is also
available over the telephone and via email. These are options often
utilised by those students not residing in York, those on
placement, or for many ongoing matters where regular appointments
are often not necessary.
Before your appointment
Other than ensuring you have all relevant
information and any necessary documents, it is unlikely that you
will need to do anything prior to your appointment. If you have any
concerns about this please contact the Student Advice Team.
Your appointment
Please ensure you arrive on time for your
appointment. When you arrive please report to the Student Advice
Team desk in Holgate and let them know that you have an appointment
with a specialist adviser. They will let the adviser know when you
arrive.
Ordinarily, your appointment will be held in
one of the private interview spaces within the Holgate building. If
a situation arises where this is not possible the adviser will
discuss this with you at the start of your appointment.
During your appointment you will have the
opportunity to discuss your circumstances, and any information or
advice given will be based on your individual circumstances and
requirements. The adviser may take brief notes during the
appointment, which can be very important if a follow-up appointment
or advice is required. This will be discussed with you during your
appointment where appropriate.
Following your appointment
During your appointment it may be that action
points are agreed. If action is to be undertaken by the adviser
this will be completed within the timescales discussed during your
appointment, or will be renegotiated where absolutely necessary. On
some occasions it may be that the adviser is not able to
take action until you have done something yourself, again this will
be discussed during your appointment.
If you find that you require further advice or
support from the adviser about your initial enquiry or about
any other issue affecting you during your time as a student, you
can return to the team at any time using the contact methods
outlined above.
If you have accessed any of our teams during
your time as a student but will soon be completing the final year
of your course, are a recent York St John graduate, or have
withdrawn from your course, it may be that support from advisers
can be continued. Please contact the Student Advice
Team directly if you feel this affects you.
