Product Design BA (Hons)
The interview day for the Product Design
programme is packed with a variety of information designed to not
only help us make a decision, but also to enable you to make a
decision about studying at York St John University. This
degree successfully prepares students for starting
professional careers in a wide range of industries.
Therefore, in order to get a clearer picture about your
potential for working as a product designer, an important part
of the day is for us to discover what aspects of design
interest you. You will be able to view an extensive range of
design work by current students, illuding the design of
consumer goods such as lighting, electronic equipment
and packaging, sports and medical equipment, furniture for
domestic and contract environments, new media applications and
sustainable product design.
You will also have the opportunity to see work
undertaken collaboratively with our partners in industry and
to find out how this enables students to start
work immediately upon graduating from the programme. You will
also learn about the alternative post graduate opportunities
that we offer such as Design Works and the MBA. Both of these
enable you to stay on when you graduate and allow you
to learn about running your own business or other
organisations.
The presentation, which lasts for about an
hour, is followed by a tour of our extensive and superbly equipped
Design Centre. You are invited to inspect the studios,
workshops and IT centres so that you can evaluate the
professionally resourced, industry standard environment that will
support your studies.
The interview itself:
- Will normally last for approximately 30 minutes.
- You will be invited to either present project work to a member
of staff or respond to questions about your work and any practical
experiences in workshops.
- Aims to enable you to communicate your key points to the
interviewer.
- Has no theory or practical examinations.
