QTS skills tests
Students starting in 2012
If you're starting your degree before 1 July 2013, you will be
able to take the skills test at any point during your training.
Please note that you are only allowed three attempts at
passing the test, after which you will have to wait two years
before taking the test again.
Students starting in 2013
If you're starting your degree after 1 July 2013, you will be
required to pass the skills test before you start your course. Once
you have submitted your course application form, you will be
eligible to book the skills test via the Department of Education
website. The first pre-entry test appointments and the registration
and booking system are available now.
Practice tests are available on the Teaching Agency
website.
You will be required to have passed the DfE's skills tests in
numeracy and literacy before you start the course.
You must pass both tests before starting the course (ideally
before attending an interview, however you will not be eligible to
register and book the skills tests until after you have
submitted an application for an ITT programme).
For those who have not passed the tests at time of interview,
passing the tests will form one of the conditions of your offer
from York St John University for an ITT course.
The test are managed externally and all questions should be
directed to the Skills Test Team at the
Teaching Agency
