SEDA eLearning
Professional Development
“The sector is moving towards
the view of enhancing learning and teaching through the use of
technology in order to create a more student-focused and flexible
system…there is a need for a real cultural change on the part of
teachers, institutions and learners…” Professor Sir Ron Cooke
in ‘Online Innovation in Higher Education‘ (2008: 13).
There are many reasons both professional and
personal why an individual may seek professional development with
regards to learning technologies. With the pace of change in the
field of technology being so rapid, it is vital that colleagues
with and interest in the area of education are up to date and aware
of the challenges and opportunities presented.
SEDA is the professional association for staff and educational
developers in the UK, promoting innovation and good practice in
higher education. SEDA offers a variety of professional development
awards all aimed at enabling staff to develop both personally and
professionally.
The quote above is call for a cultural change
in higher education. Participation in the SEDA accredited awards
provides the opportunity for anyone working within an educational
setting to develop their understanding of how current, new and
emerging technologies can be used to enhance the learning
experience of students.
Participation will enable you
to:
- enhance your capabilities within your role
and beyond
- promote the use of Learning Technologies within the staff and
student experiences
- meet the changing needs of roles within education
- feel more confident
- gain professional recognition.
