Arrivals 2019

Arriving is a big step and you'll have a busy weekend getting packed and unpacked. We want to make sure you know what you can expect.

If you are the parent or guardian of a prospective student please see our Parents and Guardians information.

When can I move into my room?

Arrival weekend this year is 14th-15th September 2019. Once you have completed your induction, you will be able to select an arrival time slot and find out more information about the weekend. It’s not possible to move in any early than this weekend, but you may move in afterwards.

My time slot

Why do I need to book a time slot?

Over the course of the weekend, we have around 2,000 students moving into their accommodation. To make the process quicker for everyone, we need to manage the number of people arriving at particular times.

What if I get stuck in traffic and cannot make my time slot?

Don’t worry too much – we know that these things happen and you will still be able to move into your room when you do arrive.

Do I just go straight to my accommodation site?

Unless you are living at the Brickworks, you will need to come to the main Lord Mayor's Walk campus to be checked in and collect your keys. There are very few parking spaces on the campus, so unless you are moving into the Lord Mayor's Walk accommodation, you will need to park at the Pay and Display Car Park across the road.

Once you are on the main campus

Do I need to bring anything with me to be able to collect my keys?

Please bring the arrival pass that will be generated as part of the induction process, and make sure that you know your student ID number.

Do I need to do anything else whilst I am on the campus?

You will be able to register with the medical practice and also collect your insurance certificate.

How long can I park once I arrive at my site?

As most sites have limited parking spaces, you are only able to park whilst you unload your vehicle. You will then need to move to a nearby car park. Details of car parks can be found on the City of York Council website

If you are moving into Percy’s Lane and decide to park in the retail park nearby, please be aware of the time limit on parking.

If you are moving into a University Managed House we will send you specific details of local parking restrictions as some areas have permit-only parking.

Will there be help on the day?

Staff and student helpers will be around at all sites – so please just ask if you have any queries!

Once the teams have left the sites, you can contact the Security team on 01904 876444 or 07885 201182 and they will also be able to help.

You are welcome to bring friends and family along with you to help you move in, although we do ask that on the day you go through the check-in process unattended. This is to ensure that the day goes as smoothly as possible.

What happens once I have moved in to my accommodation?

The Students’ Union will be running events from 6.30pm on both evenings, so why not get together with your housemates and head to the SU?
