Case study

Amy Carr

2nd Year Sport and Exercise Science, Eaglescliff

I started training in athletics just after the London 2012 Para-Olympics. I’ve always been into sport but from London I got a taste for para-sport and seeing people with similar disabilities as me, and that’s what got me into more of a competitive environment.

It was a really challenging year for me moving to University; it’s quite overwhelming and stressful but looking back now I’ve learnt and developed as a person. With York St John University being a smaller University, there is a great community bond between academics and students. There’s such a good vibe around campus.

1st year was such a busy year for me as I met tonnes of new people, changing my coach and starting a new course. Everyone here at the University and the Union has helped me in balancing my academic studies whilst still working around my training as well, and I’m so proud of everything I’ve achieved during my time here.
