Module outline

Professionals working in health and / or social care services are expected to be able to locate and critique relevant evidence to maintain and improve the quality of the service delivered. Despite the prominence of the notion of evidence-based practice, it is widely recognised that the application of evidence to practice is complex and involves a number of challenges that are often ignored.

Cochrane reviews, for example, recognise difficulties at a number of levels, including the formulation of questions, the use of knowledge brokers and opinion leaders, and organisational infrastructure. It is therefore essential that professionals critically engage with contemporary understanding of EBP in order to improve the application of evidence to practice.
