Postgraduate taught module
The aim of this module is to facilitate students to becoming informed consumers and producers of research; such research may be international in origin so the issue of generalisability require critical consideration. Students will explore different approaches to knowledge construction and examine various research paradigms, their approaches to enquiry and their underlying assumptions.

Students will evaluate a range of research designs and methodological processes and will have opportunities to consider ethical principles which underpin and guide research.
Students will critically evaluate the evidence base within their own subject and develop the necessary skills to plan their own research projects.
Students will produce a research proposal, have the opportunity to reflect upon and learn from written feedback, engage in dialogue with staff about the assessment process and produce a revised draft of the proposal in response to the formative feedback.

Formative Assessment: draft research project proposal
Summative Assessment: written research proposal, including reflection on and response to formative feedback (5,000 words, 100% weighting)

The professional group attracted to these courses include a wide range of professions from across the health and social care field, including: Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Nurses, Social Workers, Care Workers, a range of Allied Health Professionals, Medical Staff and Podiatrists.
This module is a core module on all the health and social care masters programmes.

Evaluating Evidence and Effecting Change is an excellent place to start, enabling you to follow the evidence based practice approach to critique evidence and apply your findings to improve your practice or service. Other modules enable you to develop as a leader or transform your practice through the application of a health coaching approach.
