The music world is (slowly and often reluctantly) waking up to fact that women composers are profoundly under-represented - on concert platforms, in the recording studio, or in print. Dr Anna Beer (University of Oxford) will talk about the rich, complex and inspiring history of female composers who worked in the Western art music tradition - and ask some tough questions as to why this female tradition still struggles for recognition even now. Anna will also be signing copies of her most recent book, Sounds and Sweet Airs: The Forgotten Women of Classical Music (2016).
