Sixth International Conference of the British Association for the Study of Spirituality (BASS)

This interdisciplinary and inter-professional conference is designed to bring together a broad range of scholars and practitioners from around the world who have interests in the theory and practice of spirituality.

The conference title reflects the three key elements in the study of spirituality that underpin the work of BASS: Research, Education, Practice. Five internationally-renowned keynote speakers will each highlight what they see as significant aspects of spirituality within their own disciplinary/professional context, including particular challenges to, and opportunities for, the development of research, professional practice and/or education in the field of spirituality.

Parallel sessions will enable participants to showcase their own work in the form of a presentation, workshop or poster. The conference will provide an exciting opportunity for conversations and syntheses across international, academic and professional boundaries in ways that will enhance the future development of the study of spirituality.

Abstract Submissions

We are welcoming submissions of abstracts to contribute to this conference. Abstracts are invited for:

  • Individual oral paper presentations
  • 'Dialogue pairs' (two people jointly presenting a topic in dialogue with one another)
  • Workshops
  • Posters

These may present accounts and findings from theoretical research and reflection, studies in professional settings and/or in contexts involving learning, teaching or facilitation in the field of spirituality. They may be from any academic, professional or community setting in which the study and practice of spirituality plays a part.

Doctoral students and new researchers in the field are warmly invited to participate and will have an opportunity to join the BASS Spirituality Scholars Network.

Please see attached BASS 2020 - Call for Abstracts (pdf. 0.3MB) for further details on the process and how to submit.

*Due to popular demand the call for abstracts deadline for BASS 2020 has been extended to 2 December 2019*
