York St John University Bake off 

It’s time to put your apron on and learn to bake some filo mince twists for you and your family. The event will be led by our catering team. Do you have what it takes to win star baker? You have 1 hour. On your marks, get ready, BAKE!

Filo mince twist recipe:

Ingredients

  • Filo pastry 
  • Puff pastry 
  • Brown sugar 
  • Cinnamon 
  • Nutmeg
  • a jar of mincemeat 
  • Glacier cherries  

Method 

  1. Line a muffin tin with 2 sheets of filo pastry
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet thinly, then spread the mincemeat across the puff pastry
  3. Sprinkle with brown sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon
  4. Roll the pastry over like a swiss roll and slice. Ideally, your slices should be about 1 inch thickness
  5. Place the rolls into the puff pastry cases and sprinkle with a little brown sugar
  6. Bake in the oven 180°C for 15 to 20 minutes
  7. Once cooked, remove from the twists from the muffin tins while still warm and leave to cool
  8. Garnish with a glacier cherry and sprinkle liberally with icing sugar.
