Building on collaborative research conducted by York St. John University's Institute of Social Justice, alongside Menfulness (a York-based charity dedicated to men's suicide prevention and mental health), this half-day workshop aims to equip non-profit organizations, their staff, and affiliated partners with useful tools and strategies for building an effective online presence. We explore how leveraging social media can enhance service engagement, strengthen volunteer networks, and encourage stakeholder support. The workshop incorporates interactive exercises and features three presentations: 'Online presence and social media audit', 'Using social media to engage effectively' and 'The benefits of creating a podcast for your service'. As well as the information and new insights gained through attending, we hope that the workshop will be a good opportunity to network and make connections with our team and other nonprofit organisations in the community.
Dr. Gary Shepherd is a Senior Lecturer in Counselling and Mental Health at York St. John University. As Research Lead within the department, he focuses on developing and leading research projects that address issues in mental health. His specific research interests are male suicide prevention and how male centric community groups can challenge hegemonic masculinity and reduce suicide rates. He is the Principal Investigator on an Institute of Social Justice funded project, 'The Men’s suicide prevention impact and evaluation project' where he partnered with local men's suicide prevention and mental health charity Menfulness to produce an evaluation of their service.
Holly Murphy is a Research Assistant for the York St. John University's Institute of Social Justice 'Men’s suicide prevention impact and evaluation project'. Alongside her research endeavors, she is a postgraduate student working toward an MA in Humanistic Counselling. As a student member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), Holly is committed to ethical approaches to mental health and well-being.
On arrival please meet in the Holgate reception area where our staff will meet you and take you to the meeting room.
This workshop is repeated on Wednesday 5 March, Wednesday 19 March and Wednesday 26 March.
