We offer an exciting and varied range of health and fitness classes suitable for all abilities.

Attending our classes

All fitness classes need to be booked through the University online store. Please use the search bar on the left of the store page to find the class if necessary.

On arrival please check in at the YSJActive Reception. Lockers and changing rooms are available. Lockers take a £1 coin, which is returned.

Circuits involves performing a number of different exercises in succession, with a focus on aerobic and strength conditioning, working at your own pace.

Spinning classes are bookable in our online store. Class sign ups can be done 2 weeks in advance and close at 3:00pm on the day of the class.

Staff multi-sports

Price: £2.00 per class, pay as you go
Ability: All

Come and join us for a fun, social game of badminton (every week) and basketball or football (attendees can decide on the day). It doesn't matter whether you're a pro or a beginner. The aim is to have fun and burn off a few calories.

Yoga - Vinyasa Yoga

If possible please bring your own mat. Any borrowed equipment such as mats must be cleaned after use with the wipes provided. You may wish to bring socks and a jumper for the relaxation aspect of the class, blankets are available.

Yoga - Mindful Yoga

Jenny is a qualified yoga teacher, ex-primary school teacher and senior lecturer in Education at York St John. Mindful Yoga is a 45 minute meditative and gentle practice to help you connect to your own being and release tensions from the work week. Have your lunch or a drink afterwards in the seated kitchen area of the Chapel.

A Latin dance move inspired class that will give you a great aerobic workout. No dance skills required, we aim to provide a relaxed, friendly environment. After one or two sessions you should start to feel confident with the routines and steps.

Free Zumba live streams for York St John University staff and students.

Get fit and have loads of fun with Zumba live streams. They are free and take place every week on:

  • Mondays at 6.30pm (Zumba)
  • Tuesdays at 7:00pm (Zumba Toning)
  • Wednesdays at 6:00pm (Zumba Step)
  • Thursdays at 5.30pm (Zumba).
