We offer an exciting and varied range of health and fitness classes suitable for all abilities.

Attending our classes

All fitness classes need to be booked through the University online store. Please use the search bar on the left of the store page to find the class if necessary.

On arrival please check in at the YSJActive Reception. Changing rooms are available but are currently limited to 4 people at a time. Lockers are currently available

Circuits involves performing a number of different exercises in succession, with a focus on aerobic and strength conditioning, working at your own pace.

Spinning classes are bookable in our online store. Class sign ups can be done 2 weeks in advance and close at 3:00pm on the day of the class.

Staff multi-sports

Price: £2.00 per class, pay as you go
Ability: All

Come and join us for a fun, social game of badminton (every week) and basketball or football (attendees can decide on the day). It doesn't matter whether you're a pro or a beginner. The aim is to have fun and burn off a few calories.

Please bring your own mat. Due to COVID-19 we are unable to provide these. You may wish to bring socks and a jumper for the relaxation aspect of the class, blankets are available.

Yoga - YSJU Staff Only

Class leader: Jenny Carpenter
Price: £2 (Monday classes are free between 21 September and 12 October)

Jenny is a qualified yoga teacher, ex-primary school teacher and senior lecturer in Education at York St John. Yoga is about connecting the mind, body and spirit. In her classes you can expect some gentle vinyasa flows, relaxation and meditation so that you will feel calm and revitalised, ready for what the rest of the day may bring.

A Latin dance move inspired class that will give you a great aerobic workout. No dance skills required, we aim to provide a relaxed, friendly environment. After one or two sessions you should start to feel confident with the routines and steps.
