Chryso Andreou is 23 years old and she is from Cyprus. She has graduated from the University of Cyprus in 2013 with a Bachelor’s degree in Primary School Education and has just finished her studies towards a Master’s degree in Music Education at European University Cyprus. Her music knowledge is focused mainly on theory, harmony and history of music, as well as on singing. She is very interested in community music, and currently embarking on a traineeship with Erasmus programme at York St. John University supervised by Lee Higgins and Chris Bartram.
Taking into consideration that community music is not widely understood and developed in Cyprus, she is sure that she will learn a lot through her staying and participate in various workshops in York. For her, it means so much this wonderful experience as she feels that she needs to explore herself in new music areas from which she will manage to realize her limits and the most important thing to gain music knowledge, since as she has mentioned, she is a teacher and her aspiration is to develop and support the music part of her. She would also love to get to know the varied culture of Yorkshire countryside and improve her English while being here.
Most importantly, for Chryso, undergoing this exchange program means to achieve her career goals. Her research interests are relevant to music and its power and particularly how Music has an effect on everyone’s lives and with what way it affects positively, especially in minority social groups.
