EX1: Excel Essentials

This is our introductory course that assumes no knowledge but is still relevent if you want to ensure that you have a full understanding of Excel. Full details in tabs below.

EX2, EX3 and EX4 can be taken in any order but all assume a reasonable working knowledge of Excel

EX2: Making sense of Excel data

This course builds on Excel1 to make spreadsheets that are more robust for data entry and that help to analyse the data that they hold. Full details in tabs below.

EX3: Manipulating Excel data using formulae

This course will help you understand and build more complex formulae to create active worksheets. Full details in tabs below.

EX4: Excel pivot tables

Pivot tables can be used to summarise large tables of data in Excel. Full details in tabs below.

EX1: Essentials

Prior knowledge: None

This course will introduce the concepts and basic tools of Excel providing a sound basis to begin making and using Excel sheets.

This course includes:

  • Storing data and formatting numbers
  • Changing the appearance of cells and copying formats  
  • Copying formats and formulae
  • Performing calculations
  • Using sum and average
  • Freezing titles
  • Defining a print area
  • Sorting and filtering data.
  • Moving cells

EX2: Making sense of Excel data

Prior knowledge: Basic Excel skills equivalent to Excel1

This course builds on Excel1 to make spreadsheets that are more robust for data entry and that help to analyse the data that they hold.

This course includes:

  • Using conditional formatting to highlight data
  • Validating entries using lists
  • Using Sparklines to show trends
  • Using tables to display data
  • Managing sheets, columns and windows
  • Using custom cell formats

This course will help you understand and build more complex formulae to create active worksheets.
