WO1: Word Essentials

This course will introduce the basic features of Word to give a good grounding in how to manage documents easily.

WO2: Essay & dissertation skills

This course focuses on writing academic essays in Word. Making the most of Word features to control page breaks, numbering and automatic table of contents. Full details in tabs below.

WO3: Layout in Word

This course focuses on techniques to create professional looking documents quickly as well as understanding the tools needed to provide visually appealing work. Full details in tabs below.

MM1: Mail Merge Essentials in Word

Rather than addressing multiple letters by manually editing names and addresses, it is quicker to let these details to be filled automatically into a template. Create bulk letters, e-mails and labels easily. Full details in tabs below.

WO4: Research & PHD writing

Writing very long documents and working collaboratively is made easier using some of the tools in Word. It is beneficial to begin using these tools before writing to gain the greatest benefit. This course can be tailored to your individual requirements. Full details in tabs below.

WO1: Word Essentials

Prior knowledge: None

This course will introduce the basic features of Word to give a good grounding in how to manage documents easily.

  • Copying styles using the format painter 
  • Using spell check 
  • Controlling page breaks 
  • Using cut, copy and paste effectively 
  • Adding and manipulating pictures 
  • Saving and version control 
  • Zooming and changing the document views

MM1: Mail Merge Essentials in Word

Prior knowledge: Reasonable day to day experience using Word

Rather than addressing multiple letters by manually editing names and addresses, it is quicker to let these details to be filled automatically into a template. Create bulk letters, e-mails and labels easily.

  • Starting a merge
