The Media Services team manages the audio visual facilities at the University, providing modern equipment, techniques and facilities for lectures and events, and exploring ways in which emerging audio visual technologies can be used to enhance student learning.
Students can borrow an iPad mini for 24 hours or 7-days from the main library enquiry desk. They can be borrowed and returned from 8am-10pm on weekdays and 10am-10pm at weekends.
We have 12 mini iPads available for staff to book at any one time. These iPads can be borrowed as one day loans, providing they have been pre-booked. ILS have licensed the following apps which are available to download onto the mini iPads:
- Socrative Student
- Socrative Teacher
- Coach's Eye
- Dragon Dictation
- Anatomy TV
- Google Drive
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
If you're a member of staff at York St John University and you wish to book our iPad Minis, please provide a minimum of 48 hours' notice. You can book by emailing iPadMiniBookings@yorksj.ac.uk with the following information:
- date and time the iPads are required
- how many iPads are required (up to a maximum of 12)
- what apps you will require on the iPads from the list above
- your name and Faculty
When you collect the mini iPads, please come to the Service Desk in the Fountains Learning Centre with your staff card.
Requesting New or Additional Apps
If you need an app that is not on the above list, please contact email@example.com 4 weeks before you need the app with full details. This amount of time is required to investigate the license requirements and for testing of the app.
For those new to the use of media equipment, instruction can be provided on how to operate the systems and make best use of the facilities available.

The department has a supply of loan equipment available free of charge for use on University related business or course work. Items must be pre-booked and can be collected from the Service Desk in the Fountains Learning Centre.

The use of video can be a key part of many activities. For those interested in using these techniques, the team can provide instruction in the following:

BoB enables all staff and students in subscribing institutions to choose and record any broadcast programme from 60+ TV and radio channels. The recorded programmes are then kept indefinitely (no expiry) and added to a growing media archive (currently at over 1 million programmes), with all content shared by users across all subscribing institutions.
The user-friendly system allows staff and students to record and catch-up on missed programmes on and off-campus, schedule recordings in advance, edit programmes into clips, create playlists, embed clips into VLEs, share what they are watching with others, search a growing archive of material, plus more.

Please note: archive programmes may be streamed as flash files which will not play on Apple iOS and more recent Android devices. These can be viewed on a PC.
