Global Cafés and celebrations

Relaxed and informal events where you can meet new people and enjoy some free refreshments while exploring a new cultural topic each week.

Our global cafés are free. They take place on Mondays, 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the Students' Union Coffee Lounge.

25 October - Halloween

Boo! This Global Café will be celebrating the holiday of Halloween.

Join us for some freaky snacks, horror stories, and if you're feeling creative, you can try your hand at designing your own costume!

1 November - Dia de los Muertos

Celebrate the festival of skulls and colours!

This Mexican holiday is full of excitement and remembrance.

We'll be exploring how this festival is celebrated and watching the Pixar studios film Coco.

8 November - Diwali

Say goodbye to darkness, evil and ignorance! Join us to celebrate the festival of lights.

We will be lighting candles, enjoying healthy snacks and exploring the creative ways of celebrating this festival.

15 November - Afternoon Tea Party

Join us for afternoon tea with an international twist!

Discover a world of different teas and sweet treats to go with them, and learn about the origins of different teas.

22 November - Thanksgiving Bingo Night

Thanksgiving isn't just a day, it's a way we can live our lives every day.

We'll be sharing what we're thankful for and playing Thanksgiving-themed bingo!

We'll also be collecting donations today to pass on to a food bank to help our community in York - feel free to bring some packaged foods along to donate.

29 November - Musical Night

Join us for a music-themed quiz, chat to people about your favourite music, and listen to songs from around the world. 

6 December - Happy Holidays

'Tis the season to be jolly!

Come along to this café for some Christmas cheer.

We'll be chatting about how different cultures celebrate Christmas, drinking hot chocolate, decorating gingerbread and listening to warm Christmas music.
