Course Fees
£1,300 Flights, travel insurance and visa fees are not included in the course price.
Course overview
Whether you are new to teaching or have years of experience, TKT is perfect if you are looking to demonstrate your teaching knowledge with a globally recognised certificate. You can take as many modules as you want, each one focussing on a specific area of English Language teaching. You can study these modules over any time period and upon completion of each one will receive a Cambridge English certificate. After taking the TKT, you can take other Cambridge English teaching qualifications. These could include ICELT and Delta.
The course is recommended for teachers with an English level of B1 or above, teaching primary, secondary or adult learners.
With a TKT, you can show employers that you:
- have an understanding of different teaching methods
- are able to use teaching resources effectively
- understand how to plan lessons
- can adapt classroom management techniques to meet the needs of each class
- hold a globally recognised certificate

Course Structure
Modules 1 to 3
These tests assess your knowledge about the principles and practice of English language teaching.
- Module 1 - Background to language learning and teaching
- Module 2 - Lesson planning and use of resources for language teaching
- Module 3 - Managing the teaching and learning process
Modules
Module 1: Background to language learning and teaching
This module tests your knowledge of:
- the terms and concepts of English language teaching
- factors underpinning the learning of English
- a range of materials, tasks and activities for English language teaching
Module 2: Lesson planning and use of resources for language teaching
This module tests your knowledge of:
- the skills needed to plan lessons
- the types of assessment and resources that guide your lesson planning
Module 3: Managing the teaching and learning process
This module tests your knowledge of:
- teachers' and learners' language
- classroom management techniques
You can take each test individually and decide how and when you take the tests.
Specialist modules
An introduction to specialist areas of English language teaching.
- Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)
- Young Learners (YL)
Modules
Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)
This module tests your knowledge of:
- the learning, thinking and language skills learners acquire in different areas of the curriculum
- lesson planning, the activities and resources needed to support a Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach
- lesson delivery and assessment in CLIL contexts
Young Learners (YL)
This module tests your knowledge of:
- learning and development in young learners
- the strategies and skills required to teach young learners ages 6 to 12 years
- lesson planning, the activities and resources needed to support young learners
- lesson delivery and assessment in young learners contexts
Entry Requirements
To do the TKT you need a minimum English level of CEFR B1, PET or a 4.0 in IELTS.
