Exploring Communication and Culture

An online International Short Course

This International Short Course is suitable for all international students, anywhere in the world, and with any level of English language. It is a 100% online programme, consisting of live, tutor-led, interactive sessions and guided, individual study tasks, allowing you to learn about British culture and communication and our beautiful city of York from wherever you are.

Course Overview

On this course you will: 
  • Share and explore different ways of communicating
  • Learn about York St John University's home city of York and its contemporary and historical culture

  • Discuss and express your opinion on contemporary issues

  • Work on individual, group and whole-class activities, with tutor guidance and input

  • Gain confidence and receive feedback on your writing and spoken presentation skills

Teaching and Assessment

Course structure and assessment:

This is an intensive, 10-day programme, over a two-week period, comprising of 50 hours in total.

Each programme day will consist of 2.5 hours of live (synchronous) interactive, tutor-led sessions and a further 2.5 hours of guided self-study.

There will be a short skills test at the beginning of the programme, to allow the course to be adapted to your needs.
The course will be assessed, at the end, by a written composition and a short video presentation (for which guidelines and technical support are offered).

Entry Requirements

To join this course you must:

Be a current student of one of our partner universities in Korea or Japan.

Have some previous experience of studying English.
