The York St John community is made up of staff and students from all walks of life. In fact, it’s part of our Mission to provide excellent, open and progressive higher education that embraces difference, challenges prejudice and promotes justice.
We’re passionate about promoting equality, diversity and human rights. That’s why we’re working hard to create an environment free from all forms of unfair treatment, discrimination and harassment for anyone who works, studies or engages with us
York St John is a member of Stonewall and its Diversity Champions Programme, which puts us in a great position to recognise the skills and potential of everyone. We make sure sexuality is never a barrier to career progression, and encourage a positive environment for lesbian, gay and bisexual staff. Meanwhile, our LGBT staff network helps us better meet the needs of everyone on our team.
The University is now a Disability Confident Employer. This has replaced the Positive about Disability scheme (2 ticks) which the University previously held for over a decade. Another demonstration of our commitment to employing, retaining and developing the abilities of disabled staff.
York St John has a number of established Staff Networks that staff and students are encouraged to join. We were delighted to receive external recognition at the Inclusive Networks Awards 2015 for our activities in this area.
Further information about our approach to Equality and Diversity, along with the strategy and policies that underpin this can be found on our Equality and Diversity webpages.
