Venture Creation Lab
Our Venture Creation Lab was created as an alternative option to a placement year for our aspiring entrepreneur students.
The Venture Creation Lab gives placement year students the chance to design and develop a technology business. The experience takes place over two semesters. It is built around the same DisrupTeK online course as the already successful Grad2Director and Grad2Freelancer programmes in York.
What you will learn
The course is split into four parts:
1. Learning how successful technology companies are created and the importance of developing the right management team & skillset to build the venture around.
2. Learning how successful technology companies spot changes in the external environment create problems or opportunities with consumers. Then using emerging technology to develop an innovative solution to those opportunities and then using IP strategies to protect their new business venture.
3. Building innovative technology solutions and business models to create a new product or service opportunity that is both profitable and scalable.
4. Developing a 3-year stage-gate execution plan to transform the opportunity from an idea to a viable new technology venture.
How you will learn it
During the 24-week journey, students will follow a hands-on practical approach. You will learn from interactive online content and case studies then apply this in workshops and tutorials. By exploring the London technology ecosystem you will find new problems and solutions for your own business opportunity.
You will apply what you learn in real time, creating your own venture during the programme. Your ultimate goal will be to secure funding and support to create your venture in the heart of London.
The programme will be led by Dr Park. It will also draw upon coaches from York St John University and the Grad2Director and Grad2Freelancer teams. You will also work with coaches from Design, Art, Technology and Business.
