York St John University takes Pride of place
York St John University is delighted to be taking part in this year’s annual York Pride celebration in support of the city’s LGBT community. Staff and students are warmly invited to take part in the parade which starts from York Minster at 11 am on Saturday 20 June.
As one of the city’s largest employers, the university is committed to providing an inclusive, accessible and welcoming environment for all staff and students and is proud to be a Stonewall Top 100 employer.
Following the parade, the university will host a community stall at the main York Pride event on the Knavesmire where there will be an opportunity to send messages of support to LGBT+ people in Chechnya, and write to world leaders in Chechnya and other oppressive regimes to hold them to account for their treatment of LGBT+ people.
Volunteers from the university will also be having some topical fun fun with a ‘knock out the oppressive and discriminatory ideology’ game by encouraging people to throw beanbags at the ‘fairground’ cans and donate to sexual health organisation Mesmac.
The university’s support for York Pride reflects its long-standing commitment to shared values of social justice and community spirit and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at this free, family friendly event.
