My engineering design career led to appointments as Project Manager, Chief Engineer, Marketing & Contracts Manager, and Assistant to the Chairman within Marconi, USA. There followed periods as Head of Engineering & Logistics Support for Scientific Atlanta Inc. and as CEO of a US manufacturing company.

In 1988 I joined the University of York introducing Management with Technology degrees in the Departments of Computer Science and Electronics. I later became director of York’s Centre for Management Development providing Certificate, Diploma and Masters programmes for practicing managers. When the Centre gained an excellent teaching rating in 1999, I established and ran the new Department of Management Studies.

I am a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering &Technology and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute. My consulting has included contracts with the Department of Defence, the Association of Train Operating Companies, the British Library and Edexcel.
