Lynne Lacock

I am a Senior Lecturer in Counselling at the University. I trained as a counsellor following a move to York after a career in NHS management, working in a variety of strategic and operational posts in organisations in London, mostly within General Practice and Primary Care.
My counselling orientation is humanistic-integrative, with a particular interest in person-centred, experiential practice. I have taught at York St John University since 2003. I teach on the BA in Counselling, Coaching and Mentoring and the Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling. My teaching and research interests have developed to focus on the professional training of counsellors and the development of person-centred experiential practice within the NHS.
I have worked as a counsellor in a number of voluntary organisations in York and currently do so within one organisation.

Teaching
I teach on the BA on Counselling, Coaching and Mentoring, am Course Director for the Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and teach on CPD courses for experienced counsellors.
Current teaching includes
- Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling
- Module lead for BA modules: Research Methods and Dissertation Course Lead for IAPT/BACP course; Counselling for Depression.
Professional Activities
I am a Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Fellow of the Higher Academy. As part of my role as Course Director for the Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling, I am involved in regular meetings and liaison with local practice providers and supervisors. I work on a voluntary basis as a counsellor for a local voluntary organisation and am involved in local forums of voluntary organisations providing counselling services.
Research
My current research interests are focused on the development of Counselling for Depression as a NICE recommended treatment within IAPT.
I have been involved in the evaluation of the pilot training programme for Counselling for Depression and have presented at national conferences, including the BACP research conference in May 2015, the inaugural Counselling for Depression Conference held at Metanoia in October 2013, and in February 2015 at the New Savoy Partnership Conference IAPT Recruitment Fair.
I am part of a research team based at the University of Sheffield conducting a randomised control trial comparing Counselling for Depression and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (PRaCTICED).
Professional Activities
I am a volunteer counsellor in a local voluntary organisation. I am a Registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, a Fellow of the Higher Education Authority and a member of the group Psychotherapists and Counsellors for Social Responsibility.
