Professor Sharon Mavin

Business School Visiting Professor

I am Professor of Organisation and HRM having held the role of Dean of Newcastle Business School at Northumbria University 2010-2012. As Dean I was responsible for the strategic leadership and general management of a £25 million business school with 200 staff and 5000 students located in Newcastle upon Tyne, Europe and Asia. Before my appointment as Dean, I held the role of Associate Dean, Research and Consultancy, responsible for research, academic development, funded and contract projects, PhD, DBA, DBL programmes, the Graduate Tutor programme and leading the research management team. Prior to that, I was Programme Director Management Programmes, in the Corporate Management Centre, working with corporate organisations and leading the Postgraduate part time MBA, MA Management Studies and Diploma in Management Studies and the CIPD accredited MA HRM and PG Dip in HRM and Development.

I have been recognised for my outstanding contribution to business and management scholarship through the award of Fellowship of the British Academy of Management (BAM). The honour is given to those who have demonstrated a significant contribution to the community of scholars in their field and within the British Academy of Management. I have been a member of the ABS and BAM national research committees, am active in the ABS/BAM Directors of Research Development Programme and the BAM Gender in Management and Research Methodology Special Interest Groups. Also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, I have held memberships of CIPD national committees and was Vice Chair of the University Forum for HRD, leading on Practitioner and Organisational Activities.
