Frances Dodd

My background is in Airports in BAA Plc, a FTSE top 100 company. As a Senior Manager at Heathrow and Gatwick Airports, I undertook various roles, with responsibilities including Project Manager for the development of Terminal 3 with a budget of £82M, Terminal Duty Manager with responsibility for over 250 staff and Customer Service Manager, including the introduction of Heathrow’s first Call Centre. Other roles were Transport Strategy Manager at Gatwick Airport, Terminal 5 Planning Manager, including media and public relations work, managing various security incidents and the implementation of an Airport-wide change management programme.

I wanted to specialise in recruitment, assessment and development so I completed an MSc in Occupational Psychology at Sheffield University. My previous work experience was fantastic in applying theory to the practical issues of the workplace.

I worked for The Open University teaching Recruitment and Selection and psychometric assessments at Masters Level and acted as a consultant in developing their study skills material. Since joining York St John in 2009, I was a Senior Lecturer in Psychology for four years, developing a suite of undergraduate modules in Occupational Psychology and also started a University Business Psychology consultancy – “The Psychological Advantage” which delivered bespoke training. Whilst in this role, my module was shortlisted for a national award - The Times Higher Education Outstanding Employer Engagement Initiative award in 2013 for designing a Leadership Development Programme for Allied Health Professions in the NHS.

I have then been fortunate to undertake many roles, such as Head of Programme, Head of Department, Acting Associate Dean and then Head of School for Health Sciences where I have continued to teach and deliver external programmes in the areas of stress and resilience, leadership development, team building and psychometric testing throughout the Yorkshire and Humber NHS Trusts. 

As Director of the Advantage my current role is developing our external professional training and development, consultancy and personal interest courses, workshops and bespoke programmes across all nine schools of the University.
