YESOL – York: English Speakers of Other Languages

The School of Languages and Linguistics provides the opportunity for you to get hands-on teaching experience from the very start of your degree and right up until you graduate.

Every week in term time, students from the school hold free evening classes for the local community to help them to improve their English language skills. Generally starting at a pre-intermediate level, these free, student centered classes give current students the chance to practice their teaching skills in a real-life environment. Class sizes average three to six people on average and students will work alongside their peers. These classes are described as invaluable by our students as it allows them to practice teaching from the very start of their studies.

YEAL – York: English as an Additional Language

York's English as an Additional Language is a student led voluntary outreach programme. Any 2nd and 3rd year SOLL students can sign up at the start of the academic year, and the committee places them in a school. Once in a school, they volunteer with the EAL pupils throughout the year, working alongside the school to benefit the pupils. It's a great opportunity to get some volunteering on your CV and to gain some school experience before you graduate.
