Language variation and change

LIdIA members are interested in the ways in which language varies within and between speakers across space, situation and time, and how this correlates with social variables and attitudes. We focus particularly on phonetic, phonological, morphological and syntactic features of English. Data collection is typically through sociolinguistic interviews. Current projects include:

  • Kirklees Sound Archive
  • Phonological and syntactic features of language variation in the U.K.
  • Phonological acquisition in a multi-dialectal environment.
