I am a Tutor of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) in the International Programmes team of the School of Languages and Linguistics.
I have been teaching English since qualifying in 2009, and have taught in the UK and Kazakhstan. My experience in Academic English teaching is growing, and is informed by my previous work in the area of English for Specific Purposes, in particular within the aviation sector. After arriving at York St John in 2012, I taught armed forces personnel from around the world as well as providing specialised Aviation English support to Kuwaiti Air Force cadets. I moved into full-time EAP teaching in the beginning of 2014.
Since arriving at York St John I have gained the Cambridge ESOL Delta (Diploma in English language teaching). At present, I am studying at the university for an MA in Applied Linguistics: TESOL. My academic interests include the role of identity construction and enactment in the success of international students in UK Higher Education.
I currently teach in-sessional English to international students, as well as delivering one component of the International Foundation Programme and helping with the provision of Language Development tutorials. In the recent past I have been responsible for planning and co-ordination of the 15 week and 5 week pre-sessional English programmes.
