Thesis title: How can theatre be used to explore questions of identity?
An ethnographic qualitative study with young people aged 12-16.
With a group of young people as active co-researchers, my research aims to explore the notion of identity and what it means to young people. This will be done through theatre-going, theatre-making and performance. These explorations will be followed by participatory creative workshops using visual methods such as movement and/or drawing to capture the young people’s responses. The study will also seek to explore which method is most effective for such identity explorations.
I’m a theatre practitioner, with years of experience gained from working with young people and diverse communities in London and abroad. I’m also the founder and co-artistic director of Waterloo Community Theatre (WCT), a young people’s theatre company. We create high quality original work with, for and about young people and the study will utilise an established group of young people who are members of WCT.
