Information for students on the new attendance monitoring system
From September 2017, the University will be using a new electronic attendance monitoring system that is linked to your student card. All you have to do is tap your student card on the card reader at the start of a class and then you are registered as attending that class. The new system is quicker and easier than filling in paper attendance forms and will help us to understand when best to help you engage in your studies and hopefully improve your grades.
For new students, your student card will be activated to use the attendance system during the enrolment process in welcome week.
For re-enrolling students, all you need to do is scan your card at one of the following locations to activate it and be entered into a prize draw to win one of five £10 printer credits:
- Information Desk in the Library
- Main reception in Holgate
- Main desk in the Students’ Union
- The School Admin Unit offices in De Grey and the Quad
The prize draw will take place on 4 October and we will call the lucky winners that day. So, activate your student card for a chance to win! If you have any questions, staff at the locations above will be happy to help.
Please ensure you have your student card with you at all times. Information on how to replace a lost or stolen student card can be found here.
University Regulations on Attendance Monitoring
The University has a responsibility to those public authorities which finance programmes of study to ensure that students attend the courses for which they are registered and to encourage effective learning, leading to the successful outcomes in assessments. The University also has specific responsibilities to the Home Office to monitor the attendance of international students whose presence in the UK depends on a visa for the purposes of higher education.
