During my PhD, I was a Research Assistant at York St John University and a Visiting Lecturer at York St John University and The University of Leeds. On completion, I undertook a Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology post at Nottingham Trent University. I am currently a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology and Course Leader for Sport and Exercise Science in the School of Sport at York St John University and an active member of the Motivation, Performance, and Wellbeing (MPaW) research group. Further Information

Teaching

My main teaching responsibilities lie in the areas of Sport and Exercise Psychology and Research Methods, having designed and delivered modules in these areas across all levels of undergraduate study and at the postgraduate taught level. I am currently Module Director for Introduction to Research Methods in Sport and Fundamentals of Sport and Exercise Psychology and I Guest Lecture across all other Sport and Exercise Psychology and Research Methods modules. I am also an academic tutor, undergraduate dissertation project supervisor, and lead supervisor for MSc by Research and Doctoral students.

Research

My research focuses on understanding and enhancing the experiences of sports participants. In particular, I am concerned with how perfectionism (an achievement-related personality trait) influences the experiences of participants in youth sports and other contexts (e.g., health, dance, and exercise) and how perfectionism might best be managed by parents, coaches, and the athletes themselves. I have published in leading sport and exercise psychology and educational psychology journals with colleagues at York St John University, other UK universities (e.g., Dr Paul Appleton, University of Birmingham), and universities abroad (e.g., Dr John Gotwals, Lakehead University). My research has been supported by small grants and I am actively involved in schemes that enable students to co-collaborate on research (e.g., Students as Researchers, York St John University).
