Changes to our services
We want to help you access our services as safely as possible.
Under current government guidance the Library can remain open for essential use.
We have made changes to Library spaces and how we work so that you can keep getting the support you need. We need your help to ensure the Library can remain open and a safe space for everyone.
This page will tell you how services now work, what safety measures are in place and what we need you to do.
Our web pages are being regularly reviewed and updated to reflect the latest information on our services and their availability. If you have questions please email us at email@example.com
We are currently operating revised opening hours. This lets us make sure you are safe.
Please wear a face covering (unless medically exempt) over your nose and mouth for the duration of any visit you make to the Library.
Our Click and Collect service provides you with access to books and DVDs held by the Library. All you need to do is place a reservation for the item you need on the Library Catalogue. In most cases ebooks are accessible instantly and we recommend using ebook versions of our books where these are available. You may also find that Box of Broadcasts offers instant access to some films and TV series.
If you are unable to travel to campus to collect print items, you can register for our postal loans service.
Books can be returned on campus or via our free postal returns service using Clicksit.
Books will be quarantined for 72 hours after they are returned to reduce the chance of contamination. It is not currently possible to browse for items on the shelves in the library, please do not enter restricted areas. You can still look for books online using our Library Catalogue.
We have suspended fines for overdue items until further notice.
Study spaces must be booked online before use and we will ask you to check in at the Service Desk on arrival at the Library. Study spaces are strictly limited to 1 person only per booking slot.
If you do not take up your space within 15 minutes it will become available on the booking system for others to use.
Due to distancing measures there will be less spaces available, this includes PC study spaces. Please always observe our 2m distancing rules.
There will be cleaning stations in the Library so that you can clean study spaces before and after you use them.
Laptops should be booked in advance using our Media Loans booking system. Booked laptops can be picked up at our Click and Collect desk in Fountains.
When you borrow a laptop you will be able to keep it for 1 week. At the end of the week you must return the laptop to the Library. It is not possible to renew laptops as they are in high demand.
Reduced contact points
To control the spread of infection we have reduced the need to use touchscreens. You can borrow books by scanning your student card. We have adapted our printers to release print jobs automatically after scanning your student card.
Our Library and Learning staff are available in the Library and online to help you. Please treat our staff and other Library users with respect.
We ask you to observe physical distancing and stand behind any screens we have at our desks.
Hand sanitiser and cleaning
Hand sanitiser will be provided at the Library entrance and at locations inside. Our Cleaning teams will keep busy areas clean during the day. Cleaning stations will be provided so that you can clean study spaces before and after you use them.
The Student Kitchen
The Student Kitchen will be closed.
Soft furniture like sofas and beanbags will not be available.
