We give current students at York St John University the chance to get involved with our ongoing research.

This is paid research work that lets you develop teamwork and communication skills. You can also make a valuable contribution to impactful University research.

What you will do

You will work alongside an academic team on a research project to produce an outcome. The work you do will depend on the research project you are involved in. Student researchers often get involved with:

  • Data collection and analysis
  • Survey creation
  • Participant recruitment and interviewing
  • Literature reviews
  • Transcription
  • Development of new resources

You will be able to attend networking events with fellow student researchers. This gives you a chance to discuss the development of your project. You can also take part in a research showcase at our Eat. Sleep. Research. Repeat. conference. You can present your research project as a poster or 10 minute presentation.

Some students attend external conferences or have research outcomes published in academic journals.

How to get involved

Places on the Students as Researchers Scheme become available in November and May each year. You must be a current student at York St John University to apply.

You will be able to apply to work on different research projects. Projects could relate to 1 subject, or focus on multiple academic areas.

We advertise Students as Researchers opportunities on Handshake. You will need a Handshake login to access the jobs.

To apply for a place you will need to complete an application form when a recruitment round is open. We do not accept CVs.

Applications are reviewed by project supervisors and the highest scoring applicant is invited to an initial meeting with them before an offer is confirmed.
