What are the requirements of submissions for REF 2021?
The REF 2021 Open Access policy applies to journal articles and conference contributions (with an International Standard Serial Number (ISSN)) which are accepted for publication from 1 April 2016 and published on or before 31 December 2020.
The outputs covered by the policy must be deposited in a suitable open access repository within three months of acceptance if they are to be eligible for submission to the next REF.
In order to ensure your research outputs will be eligible under this policy, you should upload your author accepted manuscript to email@example.com immediately after acceptance.
I don’t have the full text of my research output. Can I still add a record to the repository?
Yes, you can. However, if you want your research output to be considered as part of a REF submission, you will need to meet the open access requirements.
Which file formats can I upload to the repository?
You can upload most file formats, including HTML. If you have any issues uploading files, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. Please remember that your outputs must be accessible in line with the new digital accessibility regulations.
I have research I conducted whilst at a different institution – can I upload this to RaY?
Yes, providing that you are complying with any copyright associated with the research output in question.
When should I add my research outputs to RaY?
You can add your research outputs at any time, but anything you want to be considered as part of a REF submission should be added within three months of acceptance for publication. We strongly recommend that you upload research outputs as quickly as possible.
