Our safety measures will allow students to move into university accommodation, access campus buildings, use the library and other study spaces, eat and drink on campus, and meet up and socialise.
Access to a laptop or PC is advised for on and off-campus learning. PCs and loan laptops will be available for students who need them in our Fountains and Holgate buildings, London campus and Haxby Road site. Our Library will have a no-contact click and collect service from August and you’ll still be able to access ebooks, electronic journals, newspaper and television archives, and search tools via the library website wherever you are. We are also working towards a safe browsing approach for Library shelves during semester one. Access to study space or PCs in the Library will be through a booking system from September.
All our teaching spaces have been set up to allow physical distancing. There will be fewer people around. We can’t have everyone on campus at once, so we’ve got controls in place to keep numbers down. Reception areas are kitted out with screens and 2 metre distance floor markings.
One-way systems have been brought in in buildings, corridors, staircases and at catering outlets, wherever possible. Some doors will open automatically, others will be left open to cut down on high touch points.
Campus is opening up in phases to make sure that everything is tested and checked before you get here. We’re checking that everything is ready before a building can be opened. This includes cleansing the water systems, testing fire alarms, restarting and checking ventilation and air-conditioning and a number of health and safety checks.
We plan to offer a range of outdoor and takeaway options from our catering outlets on campus. Exact details will be confirmed nearer the start of the semester.
