Mature Learners

Mature Learners are strongly represented within our University community, with almost 20% of our students being classed as mature.

At York St John we are seeking to raise the representation of mature students who are returning to education who have not had previous experience of Higher Education. (A mature student is anyone 21 years of age or over upon application for undergraduate study and 24 years of age or over upon application for postgraduate study. We do not have an upper age limit).

Mature Learner Information Sessions

Mature students talking at a benchWe currently run Mature Learner Information Sessions, led by a member of the team from our Student Recruitment Team and a mature student ambassador.

This is an opportunity for mature learners who have been out of formal education for a while and are considering higher education to find out more about university life. During the session you will meet a current mature student, be given a presentation and have your questions answered about attending University. You may also wish to take up the offer of an optional campus tour.

Your questions may include:

  • What subjects can I study?
  • How long would it take?
  • Full-time or part-time study?
  • What support can I have in order to study?
  • Do I have the skills and qualifications to apply?
  • What financial support can I get?
  • How do I apply?
