Why choose Postgraduate study?
Far fewer people have Postgraduate degrees than Undergraduate qualifications. This really does give you something extra to make you stand out in the graduate job market. Your decision to continue your study to a higher level shows your willingness to think independently and go the extra mile to achieve your goals. You will also earn more throughout your career - £6,000 a year more than those with only an Undergraduate degree (Department for Education Graduate Labour Market Report 2017).
Postgraduate study is a chance to take new opportunities, gain new skills, study your subject in more depth and be part of our exciting research community.
Postgraduate student experience
By continuing your studies at York St John University you can get straight into your stride. The great teaching and academic support you experience at Undergraduate level will continue to help you make the most of the opportunities Postgraduate study offers.
You don’t need to say goodbye to your sports teams or societies - all of these are open to Postgraduate students, so you can stay part of your team or try something new as you start the next stage of your York St John University journey. Students study from all over the world and all walks of life on our Postgraduate courses, and starting a new course is a chance to meet a new group of people.
What can I study at Postgraduate level?
York St John University offer a range of taught Postgraduate courses across a huge range of subjects. You can browse these below. Taught courses will follow a similar format to your Undergraduate degree, but with the opportunity to find your own niche within your subject and explore this through an extended dissertation or project. It is a step up from Undergraduate study but your academic tutors and our support teams are here to help you make that transition.
Research degrees do not involve classroom teaching and require you to focus on an extended research project throughout your course. You will still recieve plenty of support from our research team and be in regular contact with your academic supervisors but your learning is more independent.
Part-time options are available for most of our Postgraduate courses, so you may be able to work alongside continuing your study.
